Facilities and Activities
At the heart of Highfield Country Estate is The Lodge. This is our community centre. The Lodge was opened to residents on April 2nd 2016. It is custom built and offers residents a place where they can socialise and enjoy the various activities planned on the monthly activity calendar.
The building consists of three levels:
Floor 1 (Ground Floor) includes the Menz Shed, garage and storage facility. There is a rear entrance for residents to access the Lodge via a Lift.
Floor 2 (Main Floor) includes main entrance, reception & lobby, library, consultation room, kitchen, meeting room, salon, gymnasium, lounge & dining, billiard area, stage and dance floor. The pool and spa pool area is currently under development.
Floor 3 (Top Floor) includes art & craft room, movie theatre and multi purpose room. Access is via stairs or Lift.
The outdoor area at the Lodge includes, front and rear area car parking and a spacious verandah and outdoor entertaining area. The petanque & outdoor bowling green areas are currently under development.
Access to the Lodge is 24/7 by villa zip tag for automatic entry.
The monthly activity calendar includes various options available in the Lodge and various off site planned activities. Whole Village functions occur at least every 2 months and include celebrating Christmas, New Years, Anzac Day, Mothers and Fathers Day, St Patricks Day.
Some of the regular weekly activities include: indoor bowling, pilates, yoga, tai qi, gym fitness programmes, art & craft group, line dancing, easy exercise, movie night, movie matinee, quiz night, happy hour, weekly shopping in Te Awamutu, weekly coffee trip and the winter walkers at the avantidrome in Cambridge. Monthly activities include a planned walk somewhere in our district, shopping at a Hamilton Mall, and the monthly resident birthday happy hour.
Residents are encouraged to make suggestions for trips out in the community. Some of the suggestions we have enjoyed are, guy fawkes, WINTEC Windows Restaurant Luncheon, trips to Raglan and Mt Maunganui, the museum, picnics, rugby and netball games.
The resident social committee liaise with the Highfield activity coordinator to provide residents with a robust calendar of events to whet every appetite.
The gardens at Highfield are very well thought out. Spacious and attractive, gardens surrounding villas are purely for the resident’s enjoyment. Whether you are an avid gardener or not, we welcome you to potter whenever you like.
All gardens are maintained by our garden crew on a regular basis. We have had some lovely feedback about our gardens. Residents can also enjoy the two ponds adjacent to the Lodge. Both ponds can be viewed from the pathway that meanders alongside it. Seating available along the path encourages visitors to take a seat and enjoy the view. Highfield fortunately sits on the flight path for some birds from Mt Maungatautari. We have regular visiting wildlife including pukeko, swallows, ducks and the occasional heron. The gardens feature plants attractive to birds. We hope to encourage visits from the Tui that visit Sherwin Park opposite Highfield. Fruit trees have been planted throughout the village. Each villa has a fruit tree or two of some sort. These include feijoa, lime, lemon, mandarin, orange, apple, persimmon, guava and plums. Vegetable boxes are also a resident favourite. The village community garden is nurtured by a keen group of resident gardeners. Maintenance and harvesting is done by roster for those interested in vegetable gardening. Vegetables grown include most popular varieties. The 2016 harvest produced huge kumara and in large quantities. Residents may purchase vegetables twice per week, bagged into to single and double servings at extremely affordable prices.

I was made to feel so welcome from the first time I set foot in the village. I wondered how I would handle the change to a smaller property when leaving my large garden but I just love it. It was the right move for me to make and now that I am settled into my lovely new villa I feel right at home. I love my new garden and have been able to bring lots of my special plants with me. I am looking forward to seeing the pond developments and to be a part of the planting. I enjoy bringing my friends and family to the village. It has quickly become my home— Ann McGhie June 2013
